Notice: After Volume 1 2025 (Mid of March 2025), updates, bug fixes, and feature enhancements for this control will no longer be available in the Syncfusion package. Please switch to the Syncfusion Toolkit for .NET MAUI for continued support. For a smooth transition refer this migration document.
Getting Started with the .NET MAUI Segmented Control
11 Dec 20245 minutes to read
This section provides a quick overview of how to get started with the .NET MAUI Segmented control (SfSegmentedControl) for .NET MAUI and a walk-through to configure the .NET MAUI Segmented control in a real-time scenario. Follow the steps below to add .NET MAUI Segmented control to your project.
To get start quickly with our .NET MAUI Segment, you can check the below video.
Prerequisites
Before proceeding, ensure the following are setup:
- Install .NET 7 SDK or later is installed.
- Set up a .NET MAUI environment with Visual Studio 2022 (v17.3 or later) or Visual Studio Code. For Visual Studio Code users, ensure that the .NET MAUI workload is installed and configured as described here.
Step 1: Create a New .NET MAUI Project
Visual Studio
- Go to File > New > Project and choose the .NET MAUI App template.
- Name the project and choose a location. Then click Next.
- Select the .NET framework version and click Create.
Visual Studio Code
- Open the command palette by pressing
Ctrl+Shift+P
and type .NET:New Project and enter. - Choose the .NET MAUI App template.
- Select the project location, type the project name and press Enter.
- Then choose Create project.
Step 2: Install the Syncfusion .NET MAUI Segmented Control NuGet Package
- In Solution Explorer, right-click the project and choose Manage NuGet Packages.
- Search for Syncfusion.Maui.Buttons and install the latest version.
- Ensure the necessary dependencies are installed correctly, and the project is restored.
Step 3: Register the handler
The Syncfusion.Maui.Core NuGet is a dependent package for all Syncfusion .NET MAUI controls. In the MauiProgram.cs file, register the handler for Syncfusion core.
using Syncfusion.Maui.Core.Hosting;
public static class MauiProgram
{
public static MauiApp CreateMauiApp()
{
var builder = MauiApp.CreateBuilder();
builder
.ConfigureSyncfusionCore()
.UseMauiApp<App>()
.ConfigureFonts(fonts =>
{
fonts.AddFont("OpenSans-Regular.ttf", "OpenSansRegular");
fonts.AddFont("OpenSans-Semibold.ttf", "OpenSansSemibold");
});
return builder.Build();
}
}
Step 4: Add .NET MAUI Segmented Control
- To initialize the control, import the
Syncfusion.Maui.Buttons
namespace into your code. - Initialize SfSegmentedControl.
<ContentPage
xmlns:buttons="clr-namespace:Syncfusion.Maui.Buttons;assembly=Syncfusion.Maui.Buttons"
<buttons:SfSegmentedControl />
</ContentPage>
using Syncfusion.Maui.Buttons;
. . .
public partial class MainPage : ContentPage
{
public MainPage()
{
InitializeComponent();
SfSegmentedControl segmentedControl = new SfSegmentedControl();
this.Content = segmentedControl;
}
}
Step 5: Populating segmented items
You can use ItemsSource property of SfSegmentedControl to populate the segmented items.
<ContentPage
xmlns:buttons="clr-namespace:Syncfusion.Maui.Buttons;assembly=Syncfusion.Maui.Buttons">
<buttons:SfSegmentedControl x:Name="segmentedControl">
<buttons:SfSegmentedControl.ItemsSource>
<x:Array Type="{x:Type x:String}">
<x:String>Day</x:String>
<x:String>Week</x:String>
<x:String>Month</x:String>
<x:String>Year</x:String>
</x:Array>
</buttons:SfSegmentedControl.ItemsSource>
</buttons:SfSegmentedControl>
</ContentPage>
using Syncfusion.Maui.Buttons;
. . .
public partial class MainPage : ContentPage
{
public MainPage()
{
InitializeComponent();
SfSegmentedControl segmentedControl = new SfSegmentedControl();
List<SfSegmentItem> itemList = new List<SfSegmentItem>
{
new SfSegmentItem() {Text = "Day"},
new SfSegmentItem() {Text = "Week"},
new SfSegmentItem() {Text = "Month"},
new SfSegmentItem() {Text = "Year"},
};
segmentedControl.ItemsSource = itemList;
this.Content = segmentedControl;
}
}
