Integration of aurelia-syncfusion-bridge with Aurelia skeleton-navigation-esnext
25 Oct 201712 minutes to read
Aurelia skeleton-navigation-esnext uses the Babel transpiler so that we can write our application with esnext code which works well with any standard text editor. This skeleton uses JSPM for package management and SystemJS for loading and bundling.
The aurelia-syncfusion-bridge plugin brings the Syncfusion Essential Studio for JavaScript Widgets into Aurelia world. So, by configuring aurelia-syncfusion-bridge plugin with Aurelia skeleton-navigation-esnext, we can use Syncfusion components in Aurelia application.

Installation of syncfusion-javascript Widgets and aurelia-syncfusion-bridge
Install syncfusion-javascript Widgets and aurelia-syncfusion-bridge by executing the following commands.
> jspm install npm:syncfusion-javascript
> jspm install npm:aurelia-syncfusion-bridge cssBridge registration
In this section, we will discuss about the registration of Syncfusion bridge with Aurelia.
Register the aurelia-syncfusion-bridge plugin with Aurelia in our main.js file which is in src folder. For example, to register ejGrid component, we need to import syncfusion-javascript/Scripts/ej/web/ej.grid.min in main.js file.
import 'bootstrap';
import 'syncfusion-javascript/Scripts/ej/web/ej.grid.min';
export function configure(aurelia) {
aurelia.use
.standardConfiguration()
.developmentLogging()
//register aurelia-syncfusion-bridge plugin here
.plugin('aurelia-syncfusion-bridge', (syncfusion) => syncfusion.ejGrid());
aurelia.start().then(() => aurelia.setRoot());
}NOTE
To use
ejTemplate, we need to addsyncfusion.ejGrid().ejTemplate();in ourmain.jsfile.
NOTE
To load button component with grid component additionally, we need to import
syncfusion-javascript/Scripts/ej/web/ej.button.minand addsyncfusion.ejGrid().ejButton();in ourmain.jsfile.
NOTE
To load all Syncfusion components, we need to import
syncfusion-javascript/Scripts/ej/web/ej.web.all.minand addsyncfusion.useAll()in ourmain.jsfile.
Getting started
In this section, we will discuss about the creation of Aurelia Syncfusion Grid component.
The below step describes to create Syncfusion Aurelia Grid component.
- Create
grid.htmlfile insidesrc/samples/gridfolder structure and use the below code example to render the Grid component.
- Create
grid.jsfile with the below code snippet insidesrc/samples/gridfolder.
export class Grid {
constructor() {
this.gridData = [{
OrderID: 10248, CustomerID: 'VINET', EmployeeID: 5,
OrderDate: new Date(8364186e5), Freight: 32.38
},
{
OrderID: 10249, CustomerID: 'TOMSP', EmployeeID: 6,
OrderDate: new Date(836505e6), Freight: 11.61
},
{
OrderID: 10250, CustomerID: 'HANAR', EmployeeID: 4,
OrderDate: new Date(8367642e5), Freight: 65.83
},
{
OrderID: 10251, CustomerID: 'VICTE', EmployeeID: 3,
OrderDate: new Date(8367642e5), Freight: 41.34
},
{
OrderID: 10252, CustomerID: 'SUPRD', EmployeeID: 4,
OrderDate: new Date(8368506e5), Freight: 51.3
}];
}
recordClick(e) {
//handle event here
}
}- Add Syncfusion theme in our project by adding the below code snippet in
src/app.htmlfile.
<template>
<require from="nav-bar.html"></require>
<require from="bootstrap/css/bootstrap.css"></require>
<!--Add Syncfusion JavaScript themes here-->
<require from="syncfusion-javascript/Content/ej/web/ej.widgets.core.bootstrap.min.css"></require>
<require from="syncfusion-javascript/Content/ej/web/bootstrap-theme/ej.theme.min.css"></require>
<require from="syncfusion-javascript/Content/ej/web/responsive-css/ej.responsive.css"></require>
<nav-bar router.bind="router"></nav-bar>
<div class="page-host">
<router-view></router-view>
</div>
</template>- Now, we are going to configure the navigation for created Grid sample in
src/app.jsfile.
export class App {
configureRouter(config, router) {
config.title = 'Aurelia';
config.map([
{ route: ['', 'welcome'], name: 'welcome', moduleId: 'welcome', nav: true, title: 'Welcome' },
{ route: 'users', name: 'users', moduleId: 'users', nav: true, title: 'Github Users' },
{ route: 'child-router', name: 'child-router', moduleId: 'child-router', nav: true, title: 'Child Router' },
//Add the router configuration for Grid sample here
{ route: 'grid', name: 'grid', moduleId: 'samples/grid/grid', nav: true, title: 'Grid' }
]);
this.router = router;
}
}Running the Application
To run the app, execute the following command and browse to http://localhost:9000 to see the application.
> gulp watchDeploying the Application in production
To deploy the application in production, we need to configure build/bundles.js and build/export.js.
In build/bundles.js, we need to include both aurelia-syncfusion-bridge and syncfusion-javascript in bundles.
To bundle ejGrid component, we need to include grid resources in build/bundles.js as like the below code section.
"dist/aurelia-syncfusion-bridge": {
"includes": [
"aurelia-syncfusion-bridge",
"aurelia-syncfusion-bridge/grid/*.js",
"text"
],
"options": {
"inject": true,
"minify": true,
"depCache": false,
"rev": false
}
},
"dist/syncfusion-javascript": {
"includes": [
"syncfusion-javascript/Scripts/ej/web/ej.grid.min.js"
],
"options": {
"inject": true,
"minify": true,
"depCache": false,
"rev": false
}
}NOTE
To bundle
all Syncfusion components, addaurelia-syncfusion-bridge/**/*.jstodist/aurelia-syncfusion-bridgeandsyncfusion-javascript/Scripts/ej/web/ej.web.all.min.jstodist/syncfusion-javascriptas like the below code snippet.
"dist/aurelia-syncfusion-bridge": {
"includes": [
"aurelia-syncfusion-bridge",
"aurelia-syncfusion-bridge/**/*.js",
"text"
]
......
......
},
"dist/syncfusion-javascript": {
"includes": [
"syncfusion-javascript/Scripts/ej/web/ej.web.all.min.js"
]
......
......
}NOTE
While running the application in production environment, we may encounter issues like
Failed loading required CSS file. To overcome this error, addtextplugin todist/aurelia-syncfusion-bridgewhich will load all text resources.
In build/export.js, we need to include Syncfusion themes in normalize array.
'normalize': [
// include Syncfusion theme
[
'syncfusion-javascript', [
'/Content/ej/web/ej.widgets.core.bootstrap.min.css',
'/Content/ej/web/bootstrap-theme/ej.theme.min.css',
'/Content/ej/web/common-images/**',
'/Content/ej/web/bootstrap-theme/images/**',
'/Content/ej/web/responsive-css/ej.responsive.css'
]
],
[
// include font-awesome.css and its fonts files
'font-awesome', [
'/css/font-awesome.min.css',
'/fonts/*'
]
]
]Then run the below command to export our application in production.
> gulp exportThe app will be exported into export directory preserving the directory structure.
